Blackhawk rests on the site of an old dairy farm, where the rolling terrain is suited for this links-style layout. This wide-open course features lots of water, loads of bunkers, and huge greens that are easy to three-putt if your approaches are off and you don’t have that feel for lag putting.

Each side has a punishing finishing hole. No. 9 is a monstrous par 4 that plays 464 yards. Off the tee, the narrow landing area is not conducive for the necessary booming drive, and the water causes problems in the fairway and around the green.

Hole 18 plays 430 yards, requiring a tee shot into the dogleg-right fairway that must thread two bodies of water.

The club prefers that you walk only on weekdays.

Getting there : Take I-35 north out of Austin, then exit FM 1825 east. Drive 5 miles to Hwy. 685 and turn left. Drive another 2.5 miles to Kelly Ln. and turn right.

Greens good at times but too many bad playing areas in the fairway. Some holes would be ranked a 3 or 4 but overall, not the best course.

This is a fun links style course just north of austin. Mid range pricing, peak rate is 30 something. Really nice greens and a good practice facility.
