Ridglea Country Club
The golf : One of the state’s largest country
clubs, this facility offers two scenic courses that are quite challenging.
The North Course is an old, traditional course that features narrow
fairways and small greens. Both courses were updated in 1988 by
Jay Morrish and are very well maintained
Designed by John Bredemus in 1928, the North Course features bent-grass
greens and lush fairways, with natural streams throughout. Expect
a difficult start with two long par 4s in the first five holes.
The No. 4 hole plays into a green protected by water on the left
and back sides.
The more difficult of the two courses, the South Course was designed
by Ralph Plummer in 1955 and is reserved exclusively for use by
men. Jay Morrish renovated the course in 1988. Hole 2 is guarded
on the left by the Trinity River and is long at 450 yards. Number
10 is loaded with hazards–a lake guards the landing area that
runs all the way to the back of the green. Drive it well on number
12, where the river weaves across the fairway three times. The landing
area off the tee is in a very small area at the corner of the dogleg.
The Trinity affects 14 as well, winding across the fairway in front
of the tee and again at 225 yards out.
