Don January was hired to mold this terrain along Eagle Mountain Lake, building a course once known by its wildly confusing name of Lake Country Country Club. Nine holes opened in the 1970s, and the layout was eventually expanded to 18 and named Eagle Mountain Country Club.

Eight years before he built Colonial Country Club, John Bredemus came to Fort Worth to build Meadowbrook. The city bought the facility years later and brought Ralph Plummer in for renovations in 1962, when the creation of dams formed five new lakes and improved the irrigation system.

Leonard bought the land, known as the “Lone Oak Tract,” from the Amon Carter Foundation and hired Robert Trent Jones to design the course over 200 acres of the 1,200-acre tract.
