Gainesville’s golf course is pretty much a simple muni-style layout that displays signs of being a links track, but definitely has some character with mature trees and frustrating, deceptive greens. These greens are tough on approach shots because they’re small, and once you’re on them the undulations can burn you for a three-jack. Ralph Plummer supposedly built this in the 1950s, and a creek runs through the course and comes into play several times.

The course is fun because of its relaxing, rural setting, as well as the wide-open fairways that allow you to take full rips on just about every drive.

Getting there : From I-35 north, take Hwy. 82 west. The course is about 3 miles down the road.

We played today. Fairways in need of help but in all fairness we have had a lot of rain. Greens we amazing. Like plush carpet. Course is long, especially for ladies. Interesting layout. Roughs high , but again hard to mow lately. They were out today making an effort. Not a push over ho hum course. Requires good shots. Definitely worth the green fees. $12 for seniors. Friday morning.

This golf course is in bad shape. I grew up in Gainesville and graduated from high school in 2005. This was actually a pretty nice course then but just played it today and it was pretty bad. It is only $20.00 for a cart and 18 holes but if your looking for a cheap round there are better choices (TWU course in Denton). My suggestion would be to drive the extra 15 minutes or so and go play Turtle Hill. The only plus to the Gainesville course was there was pretty much nobody out on the course so you could get a lot of extra practice in.
