Houston National Golf Club
The golf : With the addition of nine new holes in 2002,
Houston National is now a 27-hole links-style track that is long, loaded
with water, and known for its small greens. With hardly an even lie on
the course due to the extensive mounding and reshaping, Robert von Hagge
created a true test of golf.
The highlight hole is the 647-yard par 5 that came with the most recent
nine-it's long and brutal into the wind. You'll need three impressive
golf shots to reach the green in elevation, which is no guarantee since
the unique green connects each level with only a small strip of grass.
The details : 281-304-1400. 16500 Houston National Blvd.,
Houston, TX 77095
Getting there : Take US 290 north to the Barker-Cypress
exit. Turn left and look for the Stone Gate development.
