Pine Forest Country Club
The golf : Pine Forest was originally a John Bredemus-designed
course located just north of Loop 610 in the middle of Houston Heights.
When the club moved west in 1974 to avoid Houston's sprawl, they hired
Jay Riviere to come in and build three 9-hole tracks.
Riviere implemented a chain of lakes that bring water into play on all
but 6 or 7 holes. All three courses feature plush fairways and giant greens.
The most challenging combination is the White/Green route, featuring the
most difficult hole at Pine Forest: the 435-yard, No. 15 which doglegs
left around the trees to a green fronted by a lake.
On the Gold Nine, the 3rd hole stands out because it plays well over 400
yards and features water in play on both the tee shot and approach.
Other notes: The course is known for the annual Three Amigos tournament
hosted by Fred Couples, Blaine McCallister, and CBS broadcaster Jim Nantz.
