Lake Windcrest is an aesthetic, shot-maker's course carved out of Magnolia's surrounding hardwood forests. Mostly hacker-friendly, this course has four sets of tees give you some options depending on how you're feeling-the clever design allows for multiple strategies to obtain par.

Designed by Thomas Walker, who thankfully created wide fairways with generous landing areas, the design offers a good combination of holes with all sorts of doglegs, uphill and downhill plays, and both long and short holes. In fact, even if your game is off, there are ample up-and-down opportunities for par, with plenty of bail-out areas around the greens.

Getting there : From Magnolia, take the 3rd Lake Windcrest entrance. From I-45 north, take 242 west (left) until it dead-ends into 1488. Go west (left) on 1488 to the first Lake Windcrest entrance on the left.

Used to be a nice course but since Invited took over it’s gone downhill. Current ownership isn’t maintaining the facilities. Several sections of fence were damaged in a storm and course owners said they will not be replacing it. Unacceptable for a private course to operate like this. Do better

Very good course for the weekend golfer. Fairways are wide and the hole placement are not bad. The par threes are long but accessible if you hit a good shot. Par five are long an d not reachable for the average weekender with a short driver. Long hitter can make it.

    Great weekend test.
