The Oso Beach Golf & Country Club opened in 1939 with an 18-hole John Bredemus design along the Cayo de Oso watershed, where the bay wind blows incessantly. The course opened to the public in 1946, and the Corpus Christi Golf Association promoted the facility with its "World Championship Four-Ball Match" featuring the golf dream team of Ben Hogan, Byron Nelson, Sam Snead, and Jimmy Demaret.

The course plays out over flat terrain, but the fairways are lined by trees and bunkers impact play throughout. Water is the main issue on the back, coming into play much more than on the front. The toughest hole is the 180-yard par 3 No. 13-it plays directly into the prevailing south wind, with an intimidating tee shot over water that is often too much to handle.

Getting there : From Hwy 358 driving east, exit Shoreline Drive and turn left. When you come to Airline turn right, then proceed over to Alameda and turn left. The clubhouse is on the right side of the street.

I played there a week ago. I was very impressed with the staff (I was greeted at vehicle with a cart - not the norm). The course is in very good shape overall....shorter than some at 6200 yds. Greens and fairways are very nice. Very impressive for a public course. A few of the back nine holes could use some maintenance on cart paths but overall it's great golf for the price.

One of the first golf courses I played and learned the game of golf. The course is now privately ran and is still open to the public. It’s still cheap as chips to play but I think the fees may go up? I’m so glad the city of Corpus sold it to someone who really cares about the game of golf and the people who love to play. The course is a whole different place! For the monies you can’t beat it

Oso Beach is never boring. The constant winds see to that. Even though the course is somewhat short, compared to some modern layouts, the greens are fairly small and well bunkered. As a result, the course can be very challenging.

The greens were recently reseeded with Paspalum and are quicker and smoother than ever before. A new sprinkler system was installed last year and the fairways are plusher and greener, as a result.

Senior and student rates are available for weekday play.
