El Angel, the easier course at Rancho Viejo, is a links-style layout that features mounding to go with loads of water and bunkers. On the back, get your birdie on the short, par 5 No. 16 by avoiding the water on either side of the fairway, because you might need an extra stroke on the 465-yard, par 4 17th hole.
Aside from the courses, the resort is home to the John Jacobs Golf School, the famous instructors- only site in Texas. For those wanting the full-blown instructional experience followed by practice rounds, Rancho Viejo is the place to get lost in the game for the weekend.
Getting there : From Hwy 100 west, take Hwy 77 south and drive for about 15 miles. Turn right on Carman, then drive to Rancho Viejo Dr.
