Laid out in the 1920s along east San Antonio's Salado Creek, Willow Springs is a long course that features generous fairways and extremely large greens. Emil Loeffler designed the original nine in 1923, and John Bredemus added the second in 1925 for this 7,221-yard layout that eventually hosted the Texas Open in 1940.
Although a few holes offer great opportunities to hit the driver on open fairways, the layout also features a few doglegs that will make you think twice about nailing the big dog. No. 2 is ridiculously long at 663 yards.
Getting there : From I-35 north, take the Coliseum Road exit and turn right. The course is a few miles down on the left.
