Utopia Golf Course is tucked away in the scenic Sabinal Canyon. It is a popular nine-hole course in an idyllic location that served as the inspiration for a book, which then became the movie "Seven Days in Utopia," starring Robert Duvall. In the film, the course is where the main character discovers his game. The scenic Hill Country views that you'll enjoy throughout the golf course were the film's backdrop. It's worth a play if only for the beautiful scenery. The layout has appeal for low and high handicappers alike. For seasoned golfers it provides a challenging but quick round, but at the same time it's player friendly enough for beginners looking for some practice. Water hazards come into play on several holes but there is only one bunker. In addition to the golf course, there is also a driving range.

- It was a hot June day at Utopia. It's country course its got a dry desert feel to it. The greens are slow as the river that flows. Lots of hard ground.It has good character and we had fun lost a couple of balls... It was what to be expected. Movie was good...We went to the Utopia Golf Course after watching the movie "Seven Days in Utopia" and we loved it!! There is a great sense of peace & serenity and although we did not get to play, we noticed that the grounds were in perfect shape. Do not miss the paintings featuring the big tree at the end of the dirt road.Golf course played in September after hot summer. Only saving grace was the history associated with the book and the movie. For nostalgia purposes I give it two stars. The course was in terrible shape. We would have played lift and place, but there was no place favorable to place it in the fairways!! Yes, seriously. Greens consisted of various kinds of weeds that grow indiginous to the area, were rough, slow, and extremely inconsistent. If you go, go for the nostalgia, and don't expect much with regards to the golf.
