Hill Country beauty: The new-look Tapatio Springs Hill Country Resort & Spa near San Antonio
BOERNE, Texas -- Tapatio Springs Hill Country Resort & Spa near San Antonio continues to evolve.
Shortened from 27 holes to 18 a couple of years ago, the golf course recently underwent a $2 million renovation by Oklahoma architect Tripp Davis. The work has included several new greens, new bunkering (some bunkers were also moved, eliminated or added), some new tee boxes and greens restoration.
The result is a golf course with a fresh new look in what was already one of the best settings in the state, the Texas Hill Country about a half hour northwest of the Alamo City.
Tapatio Springs' golf course measures just 6,504 yards from the back tees, but it isn't easy.
With a mixture of short and long holes, lots of twists and turns and plenty of water hazards and some elevation change, accuracy and being able to work the ball is a must. And the course has many highlights, including the second, a par 4 from an elevated tee that wraps around a lake to a semi-island green and the finishing holes on both nines that wind up next to a cascading waterfall the new, expansive clubhouse and deck.
