The game of golf came to Wimberley in the 1970s but never really achieved a true identity due to shuffling ownership and poor maintenance. However, in May 2001 the Quicksand Golf Corporation, fresh from their successful Quicksand Golf Course in San Angelo, bought the existing property and began to make changes. The old Cypress Creek course was completely shut down, and the former Brookhollow and Eagle Rock 18 have been transformed into what is now referred to as Woodcreek.
The name of the game at Woodcreek is dogleg. On the front nine, every hole doglegs except the two par 3s, including the signature No. 8, a picturesque, 408-yard, par 4. This hole drops significantly off the tee, rounding the corner and funneling down to a small pond that fronts the green.
The back nine isn’t as flat as the front side, with several holes featuring elevation changes similar to the signature 8th. Nos. 12, 13, and 17 all feature impressive views of the countryside as the hole drops down below.
The best hole on the back is No. 17, a 358-yarder that allows you to swing big off the tee. The tee shot must clear the ravine to set up the approach shot into the elevated green.
Getting there : From I-35 south, take Hwy. 290 west and turn left on Ranch Road 12 in Dripping Springs. Drive 15 miles and the entrance is on the right side of the road.
