Bear Creek Golf Club
The golf : Conveniently located adjacent to the
DFW Airport, Bear Creek serves up two Ted Robinson-designed 18-hole
masterpieces that are known for their stunning topography and outstanding
greens. And with both courses playing around 6,700 yards from the
tips, golfers can hit long irons and fairway woods off the tee to
keep it in the fairway, which is mandatory for a good round on these
tight courses.
The West Course is demanding early, and is significantly more
difficult on the front side. However, the back side opens up and
allows some room for error, making this the track of choice for
the high handicapper.
Nos. 6 and 7 stand out on the demanding front. No. 6 requires a
blind tee shot and an approach over water, and No. 7 might be the
most difficult on the course: a 380-yard par 4 that plays into the
wind and also involves water. The back side has the signature hole,
the scenic 180-yard No. 17 that plays along a lake.
The East Course is considered a tad more difficult, with tighter
fairways and smaller greens. 14 of 18 holes dogleg, so its label
as a target course is accurate. Elevation changes make club selection
a challenge, and the par 5s are tough to reach in two.
No. 5 stands out on the front: a 385-yarder that doglegs left
and involves an approach over water. No. 8 is longer (418 yards)
and features water in the fairway landing area and along the right
side.
On the back, No. 15 is the signature, playing 432 yards and tricky
because of the blind approach shot.
