TPC at Las Colinas Sports Club
The golf : Big names have been involved from the
beginning, including Robert Trent Jones, Jr., Jay Morrish, Ben Crenshaw,
Tom Watson, and Byron Nelson, each of whom has collaborated to build
the home of the PGA Tour’s Byron Nelson Classic.
Mr. Nelson’s tourney is held on the TPC Course,
which has always been considered one of the top TOC courses and
consistently features some of the best playing conditions of any
tournament on tour. Playing to only a par 70, 6,850 yards from the
tips, the design is highlighted by rolling fairways, extensive bunkering,
and greens that are framed by grassy mounds.
On the front, No. 8 is one of the best holes: a 400-yarder with
water along the left side and bunkers in play on right. Water surrounds
the well-bunkered green. On the back No. 17 has been upgraded in
recent years with the addition of a huge lake, creating an ominous
view from the tee of this 217-yard par 3.
The Cottonwood Valley Course plays a role in
the tournament every year during the first two rounds. Known for
the opening hole featuring a Texas-shaped green bordered by an Oklahoma-like
bunker, this course is usually not available for guests of the resort.
