beware, greens are poor
I actually love this course and would normally recommend it. The winter was not nice to the greens which are in terrible condition. The fairways are great on the otherhand..I was offered a discount because of the greens...That was greatly appreciated. Having said that, I had a great time. I will definately return.
Pitiful
Don't even see how these guys are in business. It's a cow pasture.
Don't waste your time
Tee to green was ok, but the greens, which account for half of par, were non-existent. There was a letter from the management saying that they recognized the problem, but until they make the required restoration of grass on the greens, don't waste your time.
HORRIBLE
This course should not be open. The "greens" are nonexistent. Just dried cracked green dye on dirt. Unbelievable! How embarrassing to work here and take people's money. I wouldn't play here again if they paid me. It is not golf to play a course in this condition. Close it, put some time and money into the greens before you open it back up, and GolfNow.com should take them off their list of courses until they do.
This has some nice features especially the par 5s
All the greens were in very poor conditions (dry and crusty). Will not play again until greens are in better shape.
GONE GREENS !!!!!
I have played this course several times because it is challenging to hit the right areas in the fairways to get the best lies and distances to the greens. Sadly though currently the GREENS are GONE. Not partially but completely GONE . Four months ago they were in fair condition but disease or moisture have reduced all 18 to more dirt than grass . Hopefully they can turn them around soon .
Super nice course design, but........
It's a long time since I played a course in such a poor state of maintenance. Worst part is the greens that have no grass at all on them. Something must have gone horibly wrong and it seems like nothing is done to get the grass growing again. That's a crying shame since the course has so much potential. The hole layout is so good and interesting, but the overall state of repair is equaly disappointing.
Not good
The greens were 100% dead. Entirely dirt. The rest of the course had grass but their was barley a definition between fairway and green.
Greens
I am disappointed in the condition of the greens. I understand maintenance is needed but course should give you necessary info prior to play.. The cashier said nothing! I feel like I was worked by a street peddler, I will not make this mistake again. I will at least ask a question and hope for a truthful answer.
Greens
SorrY but the greens are lost, all 18.
Several (3) had 1/8 in of sand covering everything.
They looked like snow greens.
Most if not everyone had very little if any grass, at all.
It was like oil greens in the Middle East (dirt/sand) if you've ever had that privelege.
To many quality tracts around Conroe, that won't disappoint as much as Wedgewood.
It could take months to get them up to a quality 7 on a 1-10 scale.
Not for any price.
I have never played on a golf course when you couldn't putt on the greens. The greens were in such horrible shape that it took the fun out of the game. By the end of the round I just wanted to get off the course. I left very disappointed, it would have been nice if the staff had let me know the playability of the course. Then again that may be the issue, they don't know either.
Unfortunate Early season conditions
I've played this course several times in the past, and was never disappointed with anything other than my ability, however, that is not the case anymore. The greens today were abhorrent. Putting with any consistency was next to impossible. The gentleman behind the counter was "apologizing" for the greens before we even left the clubhouse, calling them "dormant" . In reality, they have next to no grass on them at all. The fairways were in decent condition, but several of the tee boxes were either soggy or dried our and almost like hitting out of a waste bunker. Additionally, on many of the tee boxes, a flat lie cannot be found. The fact that they are still charging regular rates to play currently is baffling, especially considering that there is another public course not a mile down the road that is in comparatively excellent condition for this time of year. I would recommend that you hold off until later in the season to play Wedgewood, and even then, call before you play and ask about the conditions.
winter conditions
Played the course on a cold day in February, and the course you would expect it to be in February. Greens a bit ropey, played preferred lies on fairway, tees a bit bare. However the course layout is OK and a challange with lots of wlevation changes. Got a good deal with golfnow so wasn't dissapointed with the course.
Great design ,poor condition
Well designed ,interesting golf courses. Fairways thin but acceptable for February . Greens almost completely deceased ,but ran suprisingly true .i expect they hs e budget issues . The young lady in the shop was a gem, very personable . It was only in the40s hut sunny and no wind ..despite the above drawbacks we had a wonderful day,and would py agin hopefully after the turf improves
Come with reasonable expectations
It's winter time - let's just get that out of the way.
There is almost zero grass on the greens so I chose just not to putt at all. The fairways are not much better but they are playable.
Now that the negative is out of the way let's talk about what I think should be reasonable expectations for playing out here. You should come expecting to hit several different clubs off the tee, come expecting to feel secluded and peaceful in the woods, come expecting elevation changes that you don't typically get in southeast Texas, and definitely come expecting having to shape the ball in both directions, and come expecting not to hit driver all that often if you're a longer player. I found those aspects to be very fun and if I remember correctly in the summer time the conditions are far more playable (I just don't think they over seed at all).
I paid $10 for the round and found that to be a good value for the practice I was able to get in but I would not pay more than that for the course in these conditions.
Great Course
It was a nice find for a course of this stature at this rate. More difficult than I thought, but will definitely be a regular course of the future.
Greens were brown and bare
Wedgewood has been my favorite public course since the first time I played it in 1989. Unfortunately, the greens on 1/18/15 were bare, brown and sandy. Perhaps it was the cold weather that gave them a beating but my disappointment lies with Wedgewood staff because before booking the tee-time, I asked about the course condition, and I was told, "Everything's great! Come on out!". Wrong!
nice course
It was the first time play here. I really enjoyed in old weather
Course in great condition
Course was in excellent condition. Greens very quick. A slow foursome in front of me was only damper. Also liked gps screen on the cart.
Wedgewood
The course was in pretty decent shape. Greens were fairly quick. We played in the afternoon (1:30 tee time). Our only complaint was that the facility closed early and the cart girl went home around 3:00, then the water dispensers out on the course were all empty. We should have brought a cooler. As far as the course goes, I don't recommend it for beginners. It's very narrow and tree-lined on both sides on most holes, and dog-legs on every other hole make it pretty much possible to leave your driver at home.
