Cedar Creek Golf Course
The golf : San Antonio's newest and most scenic municipal
course opened in 1989 after Ken Dye created his 7,150-yard, par72 layout
out of this rugged Hill Country terrain. The course features wild elevation
changes and incredibly craggy terrain-you'll know that you're about to
experience something special when you overlook the surrounding countryside
from the clubhouse before the round. Old oak trees and cedar elms line
the fairways, five of which dogleg; expect to encounter blind shots and
uneven lies. The greens mirror the course layout, with frequent undulations,
and many have two and three levels. Don't forget to pay attention to the
pin placement on these tricky greens.
The first hole is one of the most scenic, dropping 70 feet off the tee
and sloping down to a green that slides to the right. Aim left on the
approach. Also on the front, No. 9 plays downhill to the tune of 565 yards,
and features an approach into a green protected by water.
On the back, No. 14 offers the dreaded double doglegger, and the view
from the 210-yard 17th hole is nice. In between those is the flattest
hole on the course, a 380-yarder that bends hard right and tempts you
to cut the corner. Beware of the pond on the left side of the green.
