Sonterra is private, and features two 18-hole tracks on opposite sides of Loop 1604. The club got its start in 1985 when Bruce Devlin and Robert von Hagge completed a 7,070-yard layout that features three famously difficult holes, then expanded when ownership acquired the old Canyon Creek Country Club across the highway.
The North Course, also known as Sunburst, features outstanding bent-grass greens and some extremely impressive terrain. Unlike many courses in the area, this one lacks numerous trees, but makes up for it with loads of fairway bunkers. The course opens with a monster dogleg right, 571-yard par 5, which features a mean approach into an elevated green fronted by bunkers. No. 5 is another tough par 5, but fun because of the blind tee shot. The most scenic hole is No. 6, which plays 165 yards over a waterfall and lake to a small green.
