John Colligan (Squaw Creek in Glen Rose) designed this par 72, 6,850-yard track around Low Branch Creek and a large 5-acre lake that impacts play on the back nine. The tees range from 5,263 to 6,850 yards and the course plays to a par 72.

The newer Oak Course at Walnut Creek CC, whose back nine was designed by PGA Tour pro Mark Brooks, is known more as a shot-maker’s course. The best bets for birdies on the Oaks are by handling the short par 3s, all of which are under 180 yards, and three of them playing 160 yards or less from the tips.

Walnut Creek opened in 1968 with its original Pecan Course–a Don January/Billy Martindale design that is more traditional than its neighboring Oaks Course, and considered more challenging. While the course is not long at only 6,538 yards from the tips, the fairways are narrow and create the illusion of being longer than they actually are.
