Thorntree opened in 1984, and while it has changed ownership multiple times over the years,it remains one of the toughest courses in the DFW area. The course features six lakes and three spring-fed creeks that spice up the layout, as well as immaculate fairways and challenging bent-grass greens.

On the front, No. 5 stands out as one of the most difficult holes – a 400 yard-plus par 4 that runs through a chute of trees and doglegs right into a green sided by a pond.

The back is a bit more difficult, which you’ll realize quickly due to the 666-yard double dogleg No. 10. The next hole is only a 382- yard par 4, but the approach is dicey into the shallow green. No. 13 is another nice hole–only 338 yards with another challenging approach into a green that’s guarded by an old thorn tree.

Getting there : From I-35 south, take the Wintergreen Road exit and turn right. Drive 4 miles to the course, and the entrance is on the right side.

Great Track! I don't say that because I am a member! If you want a challenging course, that will not give you a headache, then this is your course! I admit before joining, I played most of the Public Courses in Dallas, and for the most part shot in the low 80's. First time at Thorntree, I pushed 90! Focus on the course is a must! You don't have a lot of room for error off the tee box! Homes line most of the fairways! So if you have trouble off the tee with wayward shots, this might not be the course for you! It does give you everything a good course would give. The course has bunkers surrounding many holes, water, length, challenging par 3's and 5's, and fast greens! I do like the fact that you can go from a 600 yard par 5, right into a 95 yard par 3! You use every club in the bag! You will enjoy it!

Played from the palmers gold tees, fantastic quality. Definately a true test of golf wits and skill. Couple birdies on par 3s helped me score 76. Nearly aced, by a hair, facing 14 from 225 a foot past the cup. Putting is pristine. Saved par with one putts more than 12 ft 4 times. This is one of the few courses I can save par at because of the consistency in the greens. PGA Tour eqt used for greens, fairways, bunkers. Best asset: Entire course is perfect, consistency. In a game that demands consistency, finally a course that reciprocates.

Played it for the first time on 12 Apr 2010 & thoroughly enjoyed it. Some tight driving from the tee box. The greens were very good and I would say about 10/11 on the stimpmeter. You had to hit from artificial mats on the practise range but there is a chipping area and sand. Although there are houses surrounding the course they did not intrude as much as some courses. I would go back again.
