Golf on the Texas coast: Newport Dunes Golf Club near Corpus Christi shines
PORT ARANSAS, Texas -- There aren't many golf course on the Texas coast and even fewer that offer views of the Gulf of Mexico, which makes Newport Dunes Golf Club a rare opportunity.
This 2008 Arnold Palmer design on Mustang Island affords views of both the Gulf of Mexico and Corpus Christi Bay. Plus, it incorporates a links-like design that includes sod-style bunkers, rolling dunes and native grasses. Constant ocean breezes make the knock-down shot a necessity to tame this 6,900-yard, par-71 golf course.
There are five sets of tees to accommodate all levels of players, but accuracy is a must no matter where you play. Newport Dunes was designed around a master-planned community, yet to be built, but it's open to the public.
